Descendant
Wine
Torbreck Descendant is a single vineyard wine descended from the winery's famed RunRig Shiraz. The vines, planted in 1994, are cuttings from RunRig grower vineyards – some of the oldest genetic vine material in Australia.
The wine is typically 90% Shiraz and 10% Viognier. The Viognier grapes are lightly pressed and the first cut of juice is drained off for blending with RunRig. The Shiraz fruit is crushed straight on top of the remaining Viognier.
The varieties are co-fermented, then the wine spends 18-22 months in French oak barrels previously used to age RunRig Shiraz.
Inky garnet, Torbreck Descendant has intense dark cherry and blueberry notes interwoven with subtle nuances of white peach. Full bodied, yet with soft supple tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
